RR Global group was established in 1986 with the set-up of a winding wire manufacturing unit at Vadodara, Gujarat.  In 1999, it setup a wire and cable manufacturing unit in Silvassa. Today it has three manufacturing units, two in Silvassa and one in Vadodara.

The plant at Vadodara initially used to manufacture low voltage house hold cables. With an objective to manufacture High Voltage XLPE cables a second unit was set-up in 2018. While the first unit had a Profile Projector and a FOV based measuring system for insulation thickness measurements, there was a need for a new system for the HV plant. For online measuring, the quality team installed an X-ray based system that could measure the diameter and concentricity. However for offline measurements, the team looked for an alternative to the existing FOV system being used in the Low Voltage Plant.

Mr. Patil, the then GM at RR Kabel was looking for an alternative at Wire & Cable 2018 Tradeshow at Mumbai when he visited Sipcon’s stall and was a given a demo of the Cable Quickie, one click measuring system. Cable Quickie with its top light and software module could measure both the PVC and XLPE layers of the High Voltage Cable in a blink of an eye with a five micron accuracy. Mr. Patil was not only impressed by the accuracy of the system but also the Cable Quickie would cost them just one-third of what they paid for the FOV measuring system being used at the Low Voltage Plant. After consulting with his team he placed an order for model SVI-CQ-96 , which was then installed a month later.

Cable Quickie enables Mr. Hiren, the operator of the system, to measure 30-35 samples in a day leaving him enough time to work on other tasks at hand. With this system , he could precisely measure and control both the XLPE and PVC thickness and it has enabled RR Kabel  to not only comply with the standards but also helped it to control XLPE costs which are upto 2-3 times more expensive then PVC.
